Presets - Matt’s Dramatic Sky presets
Well gang, it’s time for another round of presets. This time around I’m following up Matt’s Deep Blue Sky presets with Matt’s Dramatic Sky presets. Most of the presets I’ve used that dealt with enhancing skies usually just enhanced the color. But I’ve put a few other things in these presets that specialize in making the clouds look better too. You can use ‘em in photos with no clouds, but you’ll find they really do some cool stuff where there’s a decent amount of clouds to be found. Or use them in photos with no sky at all. They probably won’t work well but they’re your presets now right?! Oh yeah, when I say clouds, I mean those big white puffy clouds - not an overcast cloudy day OK. Hey… I’m just sayin’

Thanks Matt, juts tried em out. A nice way to snap up the sky a bit. I think they could use to be a touch more intense though.

Thanks again Matt. I really like your presets, and copy most to my Lightroom 1.4. What will happen when we upgrade to 2.0 soon? Will the preset transfer, or will we have to copy them and reload into 2.0?

Got a question for you - it maybe just something I’m doing, but I noticed that if I bring a PSD file that was made from a HDR merge into Lr and make some further adjustments with the develop module that the preview in the library differs from the preview in the development module ????
Have you seen this ????

Thanks so much for all the presets you share. I’m always excited to see what you’ve come up with next. I love looking at the sample pictures and trying to guess what you’ve done. Kind of a fun little game. Anyway, just wanted to say “thank you”.

Hi Matt,
I’m complete off topic but i have a very big wish and i know that if not you, nobody could fulfill it!
Don’t be scared about my big words; here comes the wish:
- can you explain how to get retouch information (Clone, Heal, Red Eye) and cropping information into a preset?
The normal dialog doesn’t have this option. However, it must be possible because, this http://inside-lightroom.com/docs/develop_presets_3.pdf documentation for example shows the code of an preset which has crop and retouch as a screen shot, however without explanation how it git there.
The use of this would be tremendous: Make a picture of the sky at f/22 before every shoot. Heal the dust on your sensor. Save it as preset. Aplly it to all pictures.
So far, I have a work around: instead of the preset, I sync the pictures with all in the shoot (In the sync menu, retouch option exist…)
Would be great to read about this one day…

Thanks, Matt. This is one your best and most effective presets yet! I haven’t found a photo yet that it doesn’t do wonders on. I’ll be using it often.

Hi Matt,
This is excatly what I’ve been looking for that kind of presets. I always love the blue sky. I’ve shot alot of outside jobs with my army stuff. So keep up the good work. Whenever I go into the lightroom and mostly of the times I have use the so called Black and that makes the color come out even better as I dont use the exposure. I even notice that the LR and CS3 PS doesnt match the color when I do the printing so the LR prints are really awesome. KEEP UP YOUR GOOD JOB!!!! MANY MANY THANKS..

When a preset is used how do you cut out the part of the pic that you dont want the preset to effect? Great work Matt.

Matt, sorry if this is not the place to ask for help but I didn’t see any other contact information. I’m having a real problem with the catalog in LR2 beta and maybe some other people are having trouble too. I seem to be constantly “missing” (! on the overlay) images and I have to search for them or grab them from a backup, I also have a lot of red folders in my catalog and folders that say they have zero images but I can not delete them from the catalog. Can you maybe do an article on fixing catalog problems? I’d also like to know if there is an automated way to reorganize the catalog. I use the “by date” structure for my folders but I now want to move all of those under a “clients” directory. Is there a way to do this without getting the dreaded ! on every image in the catalog?

Matt, I just wanted to tell you that you have an amazing talent and to thank you for all your hard work with all of these presets you continually put out. They’ve been a tremendous help and brought impressive punch and drama to many of my own photos. Keep up the good work man.

Matt, used your sky preset on my iceberg shots from Alaska. It was a cloudy day and I was having trouble getting the blues to pop. Thought about your sky presets and gave it a shot. They look great. Thanks.
