Presets – Lomo Arigato (Mr. Roboto) Version 2

By mattk on Thursday, December 4th, 2008 at 1:09 pm | Presets.

I've updated one of the really popular presets here on the site - the Lomo effect. This one is based on a Lomography effect, hence the name "Lomo". I know the weak Styx reference is pretty bad but whenever I here the name Lomo that's what I think. Anyway, Lomography really has it's roots in an old camera that produced a certain styled photo (you can read more about it here if you'd like). A while back I released a preset for the effect but it was missing something that just wasn't possible in Lightroom 1 - a soft focus effect. With Lightroom 2 we can definitely come closer with negative clarity so I've updated it and even added another preset (1 for soft blur and one for a stronger blur). I've also updated the vignetting to use the Post-Crop feature in LR2.

One more thing. This adds a soft blurring effect to the photo. If you ever wanted to remove the effect from a certain part of the photo (someone's eyes or face for example), make sure you check out this video I did a while ago. See ya!

Sure you haven’t uploaded the old preset? After importing and applying it to a photo, all the settings are the same as the old one…perhaps I should try renaming it?

    sorry Matt,
but as a parttime (i also have a nikond300) lomographer I think you can’t give the real lomo feel to a digital image.

    Matt:

I love your presets, but they’re difficult to manage because LR doesn’t support nested preset folders. Perhaps you might mention to the powers that be at Adobe (since I know they listen to EVERYTHING you say) that this should be a consideration for them. Also, wouldn’t it be wonderful if the the Adjustment Brush tool (in the Develop module) it were possible to INVERT a brush somehow?

  12. Mike Panic says:

Thanks! These look really nice, most Lomo actions are blown out highlights and too green but I think these may work well in certain situations.

  13. Stephanei K says:

I absolutely love this preset. I have used it a couple of times with some of my recent work and the images that I use them with are the ones that my clinets are choosing to purchase! Thanks so much for your generousity with these free presets!

  14. yigal says:

    Hi Matt!
The lomo effect is known for years in photoshop.
Do you have a preset for this effect 4 Camera RAW?

  15. Kevin says:

Just ran across this post, downloaded the preset, but the “how to install” page has been deleted. Searched the site for “install” instructions. Can you still help with this?
