Lightroom 1.4 Update is Pulled

By mattk on Monday, March 17th, 2008 at 7:48 am | News.

According to Tom Hogarty, Lightroom’s Product Manager, Adobe has temporarily removed the link from their website for the 1.4 update. There seems to be some “issues” with it so they’ve decided to take it down for now. If you haven’t installed it then don’t worry - there’s nothing more you need to do. If you have installed it, you can get the link to the 1.3 update and revert back. You can read more about it and get the links to the 1.3 update here. Gotta love software updates :)

As of 5:30 am PDT, after deleting ver 1.4 and reinstalling ver 1.3.1, running 1.3.1 still gives the message that a new version, 1.4, is available. Users need to be wary of this. Adobe needs to remove this from their automatic check for updates until the new 1.4 version is available.

Can somebody please help? I’m unable to uninstall version 1.4. I have tried everything with no success.

The Lightroom Journal states the following:
Mac: Delete the Lightroom application in the Application folder(Mac) and Delete the following file: Library/Receipts/Adobe Photoshop Lightroom.pkg

I cannot find the Library/Receipts/Adobe Photoshop Lightroom.pkg anywhere on my computer.

    This is driving me crazy.

Exporting images in 1.4 gave me errors. Going to revert soon.

    @crash

Be sure you browse the common Library, not the user one…
Anyway, looking at Lightroom Journal, these issues look minor to me…
    Am I wrong?

Thanks for the heads up Matt. I had already switched to 1.4, but since you posted that Adobe removed the link I reverted back to 1.3.

Per comment “The Lightroom Journal states the following:
Mac: Delete the Lightroom application in the Application folder(Mac) and Delete the following file: Library/Receipts/Adobe Photoshop Lightroom.pkg I cannot find the Library/Receipts/Adobe Photoshop Lightroom.pkg anywhere on my computer.”

Make sure you check the right Library, not users, but system. That’s where the specified file is located (on a Mac that is).

Thanks Pikkus but where is the common library located. I’m on a MAC have have no idea how to switch back to 1.3.

Can somebody walk me through it?

    Matt:
I updated - what if I just leave it as is? It seems to me that there will be a 1.4.1 down the pike in a day or two. Is there any harm in waiting - based on what I read, I don’t think it will affect any photos.

    Thanks.

Hope you are right Larry . That is my approach ,let the sleeping dog lie until I get more detailed advice. I am not very computer literate. I don’t want to end up with a mess if I start the uninstall process and don’t know where any of this stuff is . For instance where is my platform manual and LR 1.3 for that matter. Wonder if this will affect my CS3 much. I look at CS3 and LR as tools and hope they work without my having to take them apart and fixing them.

Go to “Applications”: right-click “Adobe Lightroom.app”, choose “Move to trash”
Go to “System >Library>Receipts: right-click “Adobe Photoshop Lightroom.pkg”, choose “Move to trash”
    You’re done

If I am only running Lightroom (Mac), do I need to bother with the Camera Raw updates? Or is this built into LR?

    Hi Matt,

Thanks for the ‘heads up’ … uninstall went through with no hiccups thankfully and am now back with 1.3.1 :o)

I spent the WHOLE weekend converting THOUSANDS of files to dng using lightroom 1.4. I am really afraid to try to revert now. Do you think Adobe will provide a fix for those of us dumb enough to have updated? I think I will sit tight and wait.

Converted back to Lr 1.3.1 under windows - no issues encountered.

Thanks for the update on the update.

    Before/After View
Matt–this is maybe my favorite all-time Photoshop tip ever! I was watching Photoshop User TV, wondering how you guys show the before and after views so quickly. I’ve been turning off all the individual layers, then turning them on again. But your tip (Alt-click on background layer eyeball, or Option-click on background layer eyeball) rocks! Thanks!

Thanks y’all. I got it all sorted out and have LR1.31 up. I guess you had to have uploaded RAW 4.1 directly and not through LR as I still have the RAW 4.3.1 in CS3. Thanks again from a guy that got his MS in Aerospace Engineering with a slide rule. I still have mine and I’ll send a JPEG of a picture of it if you have never seen one. :

We let a lot of groups on Flickr know about this problem when we read it here and on Adobe. The resulting feedback shows that there are lots of Lightroom users who did update to 1.4 and had some pretty serious problems as a result. One wrote that 1.4 “…rewrote all my EXIF datetime data…” so this isn’t just minor but can have a big impact. Adobe needs to realise that this mess has resulted in a large bunch of unhappy Lightroom bunnies.

Karen–I converted only three folders of images using version 1.4 and after having problems w/ the DNG’s I went back to LR version 1.3.1….I don’t seem to have any issues w/ them now and all my changes were saved after I reverted back. Hopefully you’ll find the same true for you, so don’t panic yet!

I can’t wait for them to re-release this update. The Sony A700 users that I know who downloaded 1.4 say that it finally addressed the high ISO blotchiness that Lightroom was adding (and other RAW converters aren’t.)

Has anybody already heard of a re-release of the update? It’s been a week now.

    thanks
