It’s “Suggest a Preset” Day
Does October 15, 2007 ring a bell? That was the day I started releasing my presets out to all of the visitors to this site each week. That was almost 4 months ago and something occurred to me the other day. I'm only giving away the presets I use. What about you guys? I'm sure there's lots of presets that you wish you had. So let me know what they are? Is there any effect, technique, template, Identity Plate or anything else that you think would make a good candidate for Preset Monday? Maybe it'll even spawn off into a video. Post your ideas as a comment here. If I end up using them (and I'm sure there's plenty of good ideas out there) I'll throw all of the candidates names into a hat and draw a couple names for a free month subscription over at Kelby Training's online training website. I can't wait to see your ideas. Thanks!

Matt,
One other preset related item - can you explain what to watch out for, if any, on compatibility issues between PCs and Macs relative to Print Module Presets or any other presets for that matter, when it comes to sharing with others on different platforms.
There should be enough from all these post to keep you busy for awhile.
Thanks

Wow there are some awesome suggestions! I ditto Tom on the Hollywood glamour look.
I looove the look that Annie Leibovitz captured for last year’s Vanity Fair annual Hollywood edition, it had such a dark, grungy feel to it. Probably had a lot to do with Photoshop, but maybe a preset that darkens and saturates?

Lots of great ideas here.
I made a preset from an article I saw either here or on some other site. It involves max-ing out your fill, vibrance, clarity etc then dropping your saturation. I’m not much of a web author, so I haven’t figured out how to post it on my site to make it available for download, but if anyone wants it, let me konw and I’ll make it available somehow (upload to here, email the attachment, finally figure out how to place it on my site for you to take, etc.) I’ve used it with great success on automobile images.

Hi Matt,
sorry, my post is totally off topic.
I’m having an issue exporting a downsized jpeg in Lightroom. My images got some odd thing on the contrast areas, like a very strange sharpening. And I’m not even sharpening the image in Lightroom. I would like to send you an example of what’s happening so you could bring the issue to the discussion or tell us how to solve it. Is it possible?
Thank you,
Gustavo.

Hi Matt,
Is it possible to create a preset that replicates a photograph shot with one of those new infrared sensors adaptors, like those offered on this site:
http://www.lifepixel.com/digital-infrared/samples.html
Thanks Matt!

I don’t know if it’s possible without reprogramming Lightroom but I’d like to see some HDR controls which we could add multiple captures too and edit inside of light room. Can there be a Preset made for that?
Thanks everybody.

Matt could you make an awesome sepia tone preset.

I vote for the soft light preset that is being asked for. Picasa has a simple but effective tool for this that I would love to see in lightroom

Sorry I didn’t check whether it was already posted but I’d like to see a preset for getting an IR image…
I’d also like to know how to get that very warm skin color when taking portraits…
And the last one I’d like to see is the preset that makes a nude/semi-nude photo black and white but that way that the skin looks silver(ish)…
Thanks…
Great work by the way…

Matt-
I would like to see a preset that gives a 1950’s quality film look.
Thanks!!

Hey Matt,
How about a preset to organize all of the presetts…..To make it easy to find, for example all of the cross processed in a folder, all of the B&w in a folder, all of the split tone in a folder, your favs in a folder…..at least a video on how to do that…& is there a sugested way or an order to do multiple presets that one should follow?
Thanks again Matt…..you are better then a Rock Star!!!

I heard there was a way to make photo frames using the identity plate. With your work around (pdf to tiff or jpg) the frames could then be printed.
You will have your hands full making these presents - thank you for doing this!!!

i’d love a skiing preset. one that brings out fine detail in the snow and punchy colors and detail on the skiers. reason for this is, i’m going skiing for two weeks and would love to come back and see a perfect preset for all my shots, right next to a kelbytraining account ;-). looking forward to what you’ll come up with when i’m back and thanks for all your work here.
btw my favorite presets till now are the sharpening presets, they are so incredibly useful for all my shots!

First I’d like to say that if you get ALL the way down to my suggestion, that will be an accomplishment all in itself! ha.
I want to second David Akessons suggestion of a blue/grey preset for the look of something from the Pirates of the Caribbean, that would be a fantastic preset.
I was thinking along the lines of a “snow” preset. Something to bring out the blue/green, making a cool effect for bright photos..or snow shots.
Does that make sense.
Can’t wait to see what you end up with out of all these suggestions.
You ought to be a busy man.!
Thanks!

I think you have loads of ideas already submitted which will keep you busy with presets for a while now…. so I thought I might recommend a tutorial to make Lightroom a little faster.
I know, you have mentioned it in passing a while back, but since many of us use lightroom extensivelly these days, a way of making it not slow our computers downs would be awesome. I have come across many tutorials with PS suggestions, so how about putting together a list of recommendations which we could apply to our computers to make this program rock even more than it already does. It is a little resource intensive.
You, Scott and the rest of the guys at NAPP and Kelby Training are really awesome.
Thanks for all your great help

How about one to replicate that 80’s photography that has the look as if there is no contrast at all and the colors are washed out and desaturated just a bit? Keep it up, Matt - plenty of ideas here, I guess!! Thanks for all that you do for the Lightroom community.

Hey Matt. First let me say what an awesome resource you have created and a huge thanks for all your hard work!
Since you are offering… why stop at one..My call would be for a “DAILY GRIND” set of presets that would cover off many of the routine adjustments all in one set:
1) sharpen: light, medium, hard
2) cyan shadow reducer (for those white dresses)
3) skin tone corrector to realistically lighten the orange tones
4) highlight recovery
5) b&w: low contract, medium contract, high key
6) POW FACTOR: saturation, clarity, dense darks
Thanks a ton!

Hi Matt!
Thank you very much for your blog! I’ve really learnt much already.
What I’m missing is a preset for (better) skin tones. Often I try to enhance skin colors (e.g. more brown instead of pale white) or even get a natural skin tone at all.
Keep up the good work!

Here are a few random, and not too specific ideas.
1. How about a few pre-sets to overexpose an image? (though I’m not sure a pre-set will really work for this). Might be better to do it in camera (as always).
2. Some low contrast, dreamy color images.
3. How about some that would mimic the color use and styles of the great painters? Say Van Gogh to start with. I’m probably dreaming here though….
Once again great work with the site, Matt and thanks for all the hard work.

Hey!
I figured out how to make my preset downloadable. It’s on the bottom of my main page if anyone wants it.

I’m a huge fan of anything Polaroid. So a preset with the super saturated colors of Polaroid film would be awesome.
Thanks for all the Monday (Tuesday) presets… I really look forward to them

I agree with Tiffany. LoMo presets would be awesomely epic.
is there anyway that Lightroom could export with a sloppy border?
February 7th, 2008 at 1:12 am
I’m new new new to Lightroom and this site (just installed it and found this immediately after!).
I really would love to see a preset that makes colors pop (especially jeans). I’ve seen some work where the jeans look amazing in shots and I have yet to perfect that.
A TTV-like preset would be awesome as well. Even if it’s just the colors and not the texture/box.

Maybe I’ve missed this, I just discovered this site, but is there a preset for web sharpening?
February 12th, 2008 at 10:55 am
Maybe a preset for wedding photographies to give a glamour effect !

Hi Matt, I love your “300″ style presets. How about a “Sin City” preset? The photography or maybe I should say special effects from that movie was great!
July 2nd, 2008 at 11:38 am
I think a glamour effect preset or a preset for sharpening portraits would be perfect.
